Our History
The original funeral home location was in Chadbourn, NC. Inspired by the founder Rev. Alfred R. Smith Sr. D.D.; Smith Funeral Home, Inc. was incorporated in October of 1949. It was Rev. Smith’s dream to serve the people of Columbus county and surrounding counties, in addition to different cities in North Carolina and surrounding states. As times changed he and his wife Mrs. Margaret S. Smith decided to move the business to Whiteville, NC.
Margaret S. Smith became the owner/president of Smith Funeral Home Inc. after Rev Smith’s health began to decline. Mrs. Smith managed and operated the funeral home with her daughter-in-law until her demise in May 2014.
Mrs. Janice Y. Smith is the current manager and Funeral Director of Smith Funeral Home, Inc. For 70 years Smith Funeral Home has served families and friends offering understanding and memorable service, designed with the deceased in mind.
