Mr. William Johnson Obituary

Mr. William Mack Johnson 82, of Kissimmee, FL formerly of Whiteville, NC gave the Lord his hand for a home in glory on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Osceola Regional Medical Center, Kissimmee, FL. Mr. Johnson was born January 24, 1940, in Whiteville, NC to the late Mr. Mack Johnson and Mrs. Ethel Powers Johnson. One son, Eric P. Johnson and one brother: David “Bo” Johnson preceded Mr. Johnson to the grave.

A Celebration of Life Graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 11:30am from Cherry Grove Cemetery  400 Vinson Blvd, Whiteville, NC.

Growing up he was given the nickname “Red”. In his adult life, most family and friends called him Mack. Mr. Johnson attended Central High where he was a star basketball player for the Central High Hornets. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he traveled the world until he was honorably discharged.

He married the former Ms. Dorothy L. Thomas on June 2, 1963, and they made Bronx, NY their permanent home, (Celebrating their 59th wedding anniversary this year). In the neighborhood, he was called “Mr. J”, popular for his sense of humor and always getting along with everyone. Mr. Johnson secured a job with the United States Postal Service where he retired as a supervisor after 30+ years of service. He could fix just about anything he laid his hands on (electrical, plumbing, roofing, painting, automotive, etc. …). He enjoyed fishing and cooked fish and spaghetti almost each weekend. In his spare time, you could catch him at the driving range playing golf or cheering on Tiger Woods. Although he spent most of his life residing in the Bronx, he did not favor the New York Yankees, he was a die-hard New York Mets fan.

In addition to his wife: Mrs. Dorothy L. Thomas Johnson, he is survived by his children: Troy W. Johnson and Tashana M. Siller, (husband, John), four grandchildren: Yasmeen R. Henry, Ronald T. Henry III, John H. Siller, Jr., Aaliyah M. Johnson, three brothers: Billy Joe Johnson, Paul Phillip Johnson, and Norwood Johnson and a host of family and friends.

A facial covering is required for the service.
